Is that Confidence You're Wearing?

The coach handed out uniforms for soccer the other night. The children were given the option to choose three numbers that they would like to have on the back of their jersey.

Me: "Kaden, choose three numbers that you would want on the back of your jersey for soccer?"

Kaden: "Ummm..."

Me: "Just pick something!"

Kaden: "Okay. Okay. I want eleven...one...or three."

And just like that, I sent the e-mail...in that order.

This is the number he was given.

At first I was a little hesitant about Kaden bearing the number one.

Then, I got over it.

For starters, it wasn't his first choice.

Secondly, it's a family number. Both his paternal grandfather and youngest aunt wore the same numbers for baseball/softball.

Finally, there's nothing wrong with being number one.

We live in an age where we are sometimes forced to downplay our confidence, for fear of appearing too cocky or having an ego. Of course humility goes a long way, but compromising your talents or skills for the sake of another person's "feelings" is not the way to go.

Let's just hope he stays number one the entire season. You haven't seen my skills at doing the laundry. He may end the season being number, "Blank". LOL!
