LEGOLAND Florida: You're Hired!
We are moving to Florida.
Let's scratch that and try again. If I had the guts, and funds, to pack up my family and move, I would be saying, "We are moving to Florida". I don't. We're not. But I have a pretty good reason why a more adventurous and job-seeking person might head to the "sunshine state". LEGOLAND Florida is hiring 800 employees before its scheduled opening in October 2011.
LEGOLAND® Florida opens October 15, 2011 and will be a 150-acre interactive theme park dedicated to families with children between the ages of 2 and 12. Located midway between Orlando and Tampa, just 45 minutes from either city center, the park features more than 50 rides, shows and attractions. There are currently four other LEGOLAND Parks in the world – LEGOLAND California in Carlsbad, LEGOLAND Billund in Denmark, LEGOLAND Deutschland near Günzburg, Germany and LEGOLAND Windsor outside of London. The LEGOLAND theme parks are a part of Merlin Entertainments Group, the second largest attractions operator in the world. Don't be alarmed by this mixture of topics. It's just how women roll. We talk about any and every thing.
She told me how one of her friends packed up, or was packing up— I can't remember because the music was so loud, his family to move from New York to Florida. Apparently he was offered a dream position at the new LEGOLAND in Florida that he couldn't resist. Besides, who wouldn't want to work for a theme park that calls its employees 'Model Citizens'?
“Customer service and a kid-focused approach are two key attributes we’re looking for in a LEGOLAND Florida ‘Model Citizen,’” remarked Teresa Vaughn, director of Human Resources. “We call our employees ‘Model Citizens’ because that’s what we expect.”If you're anything like me, you probably have a few Lego pieces tossed around on the floor or accidentally dismantled one of your child's "creations". Most people have heard the word "Lego" at some point in their lives. Wouldn't it be great to live in a world full of them? Now that there is a theme park even closer to home, I'm hoping my son will get the chance to experience a place, and company, that has allowed him find his creative place. And I can't wait to step on a much larger Lego piece that will not hurt my toe. : )
“With the unemployment level in Polk County at 10.8% as of April 2011, we are thrilled that LEGOLAND Florida has decided to call Winter Haven home,” Paula Bohnstedt assistant director for Polk Works. “I truly believe LEGOLAND Florida will be the catalyst we need to launch continuous growth and success in Polk County.”
Due to the high number of jobs being offered, all applications must be submitted on-line through the jobs portal. For applicants without computers, Polk Works or local libraries are great options for publicly accessed computers. Once selected, candidates will participate in assessments to evaluate how well they work in a team. For more information: www.LEGOLAND.com; Facebook.com/LEGOLANDFlorida and Twitter @LEGOLANDFlorida.
