Great Wolf Lodge 2nd Annual Waterslide-athon

Myth: Black women do not swim for fear of getting their hair wet.
Fact: I'm black and I like to go swimming
I figured my chances of saving the world are looking pretty slim these days, so the least I could do was dispel a tale.

Water hose and twinkle toes
This Friday, June 10, 2011, we are heading to the Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg, VA to take part in the waterslide-athon on Saturday, June 11, 2011. After hearing commercial after commercial on the radio, and feeling like someone was playing an evil trick on our we-never-vacation-state-of-mind, it's finally time to experience the excitement of water, water, and more water. Look at our failed attempt at creating our own "water park" in the backyard.

Our trip will be mostly fun, infused with a bit of work. For the second year in a row, the Great Wolf Lodge is hosting the World's Largest Waterslide-athon in an effort to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (www.bbbs.org) organization.

From the site:

On your mark. Get set. SLIDE!

On Saturday, June 11, 2011, we will be raising money for a good cause by doing what we do best: By having fun!

Each of our Great Wolf Lodge locations will be hosting the Second Annual World's Largest Waterslide-athon. Last year we raised over $125,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters. This year, our guests and Pack Members (those are the folks who work at our resorts) throughout North America will attempt to blow that number out of the water by raising $250,000.

100% of every dollar we raise goes to Big Brothers Big Sisters. Raising money for a good cause has never been so fun!

Great fun for a great cause. Here's how you can lend a paw:

Ride the Slide
From 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, Great Wolf Lodge will donate $1 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America every time you ride down the designated waterslide during this 12 hour event. The more times you slide, the more money we raise together..

See, I always say there are several ways you can give-back to those in need even when you do not have the financials means to do so AND are in need yourself. We're raising money for having fun. I'm going to go with an educated guess and say that it won't be mommy bringing in the most dough. I'll be too busy fixing my swimming cap. Hey, I never said I liked getting my hair wet. I just said I liked swimming!

Look for a post and pictures from our experience next week. Weee!

Disclosure: I was provided complimentary accommodations at the Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg, VA. The opinions and views expressed are my own.
