Child Hunger Ends Here & Jennifer Hudson's "I Remember Me" CD Review

"I'm starving!" These are words I have echoed on several occasions before. Standing in front of the refrigerator it's evident that this is not the case. There is enough food lining the shelves to feed the entire family. What I should have said is, "There is nothing here I want to eat." I have a choice though. Some are not so fortunate.

Child Hunger Ends Here is a program put in place by ConAgra Foods to, as the name implies, end child hunger. According to their site, "over 17 million kids are at risk of being hunger in America AND nearly 1 in 4 kids in America doesn't know where there next meal is coming from." That breaks my heart and spirit. There is a way to help though.

Recently, I made a trip to Walmart to pick-up a Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers. I found this item in the frozen food section at my local Walmart among other frozen dinners. I chose the Roasted Beef Merlot flavor.

I noticed the packaging contained the Child Hunger Ends Here logo on the front. The text beneath the logo stated, "This purchase can help provide one meal* to FEEDING AMERICA." It was almost a no-brainer to purchase the item. To know that I could help, even in the smallest way, just by purchasing an item was enough incentive.
It is simple to provide one meal.

I was even more impressed with nutritional information on the back of the box. It included information for participants of Weight Watchers. As it turns out, the meal I chose is 4 points in the program. I wonder if Jennifer Hudson would approve of this. She has managed to lose a lot of weight from this program and by maintaining a healthier lifestyle.

While at Walmart, I picked up Jennifer Hudson's latest album, 'I Remember Me'. I found it in the music section under New Music Release. It must have been my lucky day because there was only one copy left. For just under $12, I was able to purchase this highly acclaimed sophomore album which included several likable tracks. Here first album was also available for only $9. I've been a fan of Jennifer's since she appeared on the show American Idol. Her voice is extremely powerful and authentic (The one gripe I have with Jennifer is the moments on her songs when she appears to yell. After listening to the entire album, I started to notice them frequently, but not enough to annoy me). When she sings, it's always from the heart. There was no difference with the 'I Remember Me' album. Here is listen at the title track:

But I remember me, I remember me.
It don't matter where I go, what I'm told, now you know.
I remember me, I remember me.
Even if I say goodbye, start to cry, do or die...
I remember me.

Here is a listing of the tracks, along with the writers and producer of the song:

1.No One Gonna Love You – Rich Harrison
2.I Got This – Stargate
3.Where You At – R. Kelly
4.Angel – Alicia Keys, Swizz Beats
5.I Remember Me – Jennifer Hudson, Ryan Tedder
6.Gone – Polow da Don
7.Everybody Needs Love – Alicia Keys, Swizz Beats
8.Why Is It So Hard – Ne-Yo
9.Don’t Look Down – Alicia Keys, Swizz Beats
10.Still Here – Diane Warren
11.Feeling Good – Anthony Newley,Leslie Bricusse
12.Believe – Ronnie Dunn, Craig Wiseman
A lot of the tracks on the album are a slower tempo, and a few dance along the lines of uptempo. I found myself singing the hook of most of the songs with no problem. They lyrics are simple, but evoke a lot of emotion. Jennifer has said in interviews that she wanted this album to speak to where she was at in her life. With every thing that Jennifer has been through last years, I'm glad to see she still recognizes herself. Even though her physical appearance is changing, I'm glad to see, and  hear, she is growing spiritually.

Pick up your copy of Jennifer's new album at a retail location where music is sold. Also, check out the freezer section at your local grocer for more ConAgra Foods items to support the Child Hunger Ends Here program.

  1. I wonder if she's yelling because she doesn't have the power now that she's lost all of that weight, or that she THINKS she doesn't have the same power.

Love the fact that Healthy Choice is not only helping US get healthy, but helping children as well. It's a win-win situation.
