MrCostumes.com Avatar Halloween Costume
I have never entered Kaden into a pageant. I guess the whole Toddler & Tiaras marathon really scared me straight. Besides, I don't have it in me to be a stage mom. I mean, what is a "stage mom" anyway?
- Does she hunt for the best Halloween costume that is perfect for her child?
- Does she create an identical wig to look just like a certain character?
- Does she call for a dress rehearsal the night before the school's Halloween parade?
- Does she spend several minutes mastering make-up to replicate a look?
- Does she make her child climb a tree to re-enact a scene from a movie?
Sadly enough, I answered "yes" to all of the questions above. And while I'm not quite sure how this whole role works, I just know that I will go to any lengths to create memories for my child...but mostly me. Say it with me, "Stage. Mom." The first step is admitting you have a problem. Check!
Kaden has been blessed with several themed birthday parties over the course of several years. I usually try to sway him into agreeing with certain ideas, but he is quickly showing me that he is very capable of making his own decisions. Deciding on a Halloween costume is no exception. He has given me input on all his Halloween costume ideas from being a pumpkin to a pirate. This year, he had it all figured out.
"I want to be just like the movie Avatar. Can you find me a costume Mom?"
I love a mission. In this case, the mission felt impossible. Halloween was a mere week away. No pressure!
I searched several sites looking for the infamous blue get-up. A lot of sites carried the costume, but the Jake Sully costume didn't have enough pizazz.

MrCostumes.com was nice enough to send over this costume (left), as well as a make-up kit (right) to complete the entire Avatar look.
The costume is meant to be worn by a woman. Not that there are any rules when it comes to dressing up for Halloween, but I knew when ordering it that it would be a one-piece bodysuit. This is not a typical article of clothing for my little guy (unless Under Armour makes it, then he's all over it).
I ordered a SMALL. I wasn't sure of the fit. I figured if it was too big, I could possibly shrink it in the dryer as I do with all of our other laundry. I didn't want to go too small and risk traumatizing my poor, little man with humiliation. He already had the word "sexy" in the title of his costume. Luckily, the costume fit just fine, and had room to spare. He was even able to put his Under Armour shirt under the costume for added warmth on Halloween night. We always manage to combine the best of both worlds. This was no different.
I loved the color of the costume. It was the perfect hue of blues. It came with lots of great extras.

Kaden loved his costume. But, I think the family loved it even more. Just before we heading out for trick-or-treating, these images were captured by his aunt Kinsey:
He surely did not suffer from I-dont-have-a-Halloween-costume blues. Kaden played his part very well.
Here's hoping the next, popular movie doesn't have a pink theme. I don't think his Dad, or I, will go for that one.
