The Adventures of OOK AND GLUK Book Review and Giveaway
In this all-new graphic novel, George Beard and Harold Hutchins present the sensational saga of two silly caveboys named Ook and Gluk. Ook and Gluk have a pretty awesome life growing up together in Caveland, Ohio, in 500,001 BC—even though they’re always getting in trouble with their nasty leader, Big Chief Goppernopper. But Ook and Gluk’s idyllic life takes a turn for the terrible when an evil corporation from the future invades their quiet, prehistoric town. When Ook, Gluk, and their little dinosaur pal, Lily, are pulled through a time portal to the year 2222 AD, they discover that the world of the future is even worse than the devastated one they came from. Fortunately, they find a friend in Master Wong, a martial arts instructor who trains them in the ways of kung fu, so that they may one day return home and make things right again. And, like the other Captain Underpants books, The Adventures of Ook and Gluk, Kung-Fu Cavemen from the Future features the world’s cheesiest animation technology, “Flip-O-Rama,” in every chapter.

We love reading, blah, blah, blah. You've heard it all before, and I'm sure you'll hear it again. Whenever we are approached with an opportunity to review a book (especially if it's for the wonderful people over at Big Honcho Media), well, the answer is always, "why certainly!"
When you blog, your children reaps the benefits of reviews (and have absolutely no say in all the embarrassing posts you write about them). Kaden has been blessed with a lot of amazing toys, gadgets, and other items before they even hit the shelves of area stores. However, his excitement to review these items is no less displayed when a book arrives. And that I love!
When the Ook and Gluk packaged made its way to the doorstep, I knew it would take a matter of seconds before Kaden wanted to open it. He's always peering over my shoulder, asking, "what's that mommy?!"
I opened the packaged, whipped out the book, and watched as his face lit up.
"Hey, that's the book like Captain Underpants. Can I see it?!" I should have known he was already "hip" to this author. He likes a variety of books.
He started reading it...and the rest is history. An hour or so later, and without a peep, he finished the entire book.
The book is laid out like a comic book. Not to say that Kaden couldn't finish it still, but I thought I'd share this piece of information before you enrolled your child in a reading class. This book is pretty easy to get through.
I tweeted this last week:
I don't even think he noticed I was taking his picture. I love this little guy!
Kaden tried telling me what the book was about. He was so excited, I could barely make out most of what he was trying to explain. I believe he told me he liked it for the most part.
A few days later, he brings home a flyer for the school's book fair. There, highlighted on the page was Ook and Gluk. You can bet he noticed and stuck out his chest as he said, "I already have that book...and I read it." Big Man on campus are we?!
I read a few of the pages myself. I must warn you parents, this book misspells a lot of words that can be confusing to certain children. If you are not to keen on this silly approach to writing, well this may not be the book for you. Otherwise, I think your child(ren) will love it. There are even a few pages that require your participation in order to "animate" the story (Flip-o-Rama). You'll have to see for yourself.
