Are We There Yet? and the Viral Booty Video
Ice Cube's new family sitcom, Are We There Yet? airs Wednesday night at 9pm EST on TBS. Tonight's particular episode touched on a topic that we, as bloggers, can all relate to. The topic at the hand: the Internet and viral videos.
According to Wikipeida:
This video was captured when Essence Atkin's character went searching for the lotion in her son's room (And the lotion, well, that can fill an entire episode on it's own). She hears the ever popular song by Sir Mix-A-Lot, "Baby Got Back" (don't act like you haven't danced to it before). She decides to 'break it down', not knowing that the web cam is capturing all of her captivating dance moves. She has no idea the mess she is about to get into.
The video goes viral, and in no time it accumulates 5 million hits. How's that for traffic?
She loses clients at work.
She gets into it with the neighbor for subjecting the neighbor's son to her video.
She is embarrassed.
She is torn.
All of this from ONE video.
As the show progresses, Terry Crews's character, known for his popular role as the father on Everybody Hates Chris, comes up with what he thinks is a clever idea. He creates a virus which crashes the computer of anyone who tries to view the 'booty video'. It becomes known as the Desperate Housewives Virus.
Now that's love! I think.
Eventually, the problem is fixed, but it leaves a lot of computers broken. I guess that's the price we pay for clicking on links we aren't sure of.
This episode proves the power of the Internet. So often we hit the 'submit' button and fail to realize that what happens on the Internet...stays on the Internet. In the words of my pal Buzz Lightyear, "To infinity and beyond!"
What we post, tweet, upload, submit, and comment on is forever. Are you worried about the footprints you leave behind? For the most part, I believe I can handle this virtual insanity, but I also want to remain responsible about what I contribute to the online world.
With that being said, you now have the chance to create your own 'booty video' in a contest. That's right, I am going against everything I just posted. You can judge me later.
Details are here. Just so you know, the contest ends June 30, 2010. You must upload a video of yourself. And for the prizes, well, here is what you'll get:
A personal call of congratulations from Ice Cube
An Ice Cube autographed DVD of Are We There Yet? (the movie)
A live shout out from Ice Cube on your local radio station
A feature on the homepage of www.icecube.com
So, if you have what it takes to make acomplete fool wonderful video of yourself dancing, enter now.

@AWTY No problem. I try to support shows that are positive. We all know there is enough negativity to last for years. Thanks for being involved in the social networking community.
