Sex and the City 2 Soundtrack Review

I'm a SEXaholic!

Perhaps you are stunned by this revelation. I'm not. You, my friend, are in denial and seem to have your mind in the gutter for that matter. Today is a perfect day to confess and show your love for Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda. Sex and the City 2 is in theaters today. Go see it (after you read my post of course)!

For the last few days, I've had the pleasure of listening to the Sex and the City 2 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. It was released May 25th, but I received my advance copy from One2One Network. Already it has earned a permanent spot in my CD rotation. I was amazed by the level of talent listed on the back cover.

1. Alicia Keys “Rapture”
2. Dido “Everything to Lose”
3. Cee Lo “Language of Love”
4. Erykah Badu “Window Seat”
5. Natacha Atlas “Kidda”
6. Michael McGregor “Euphrates Dream”
7. Liza Minnelli “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”
8. Ricki-Lee "Can't Touch It"
9. Alicia Keys "Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down"
10. Jennifer Hudson and Leona Lewis "Love Is Your Color"
11. Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon “I Am Woman”
12. Sex and the City Men’s Choir “If Ever I Would Leave You”
13. Sex and the City Men’s Choir “Sunrise, Sunset”
14. Sex and the City Men’s Choir “Till There Was You”
15. Shayna Steele, Jordan Ballard, Kamilah Marshall “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered”
16. Liza Minnelli with Billy Stritch “Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye”
17. Cyndi Lauper “True Colors”
18. Aaron Zigman “Divas and Dunes”

Impressive! You can get a taste of a few of the tracks on the Sex and the City 2 Facebook page.

The CD combines the past, present, and future according to a statement by writer, executive producer, and director Micheal Patrick King. There are familiar songs you may hear on the radio now, songs that have received a "face-lift", and new tracks exclusively for this soundtrack. Here are a few interesting facts about the tracks:
  • The soundtrack features a brand-new duet "Love is Your Color" by Grammy and Academy Award® winner Jennifer Hudson, along with global superstar, multi-platinum recording artist and three-time Grammy Award nominee Leona Lewis.

  • Soundtrack includes a new song by platinum-selling CeeLo and International superstar Dido also contributes an exclusive new track.

  • Grammy, Emmy, Golden Globe, Tony and Academy Award® winner Liza Minnelli covers Beyonce’s chart-topper “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”.

  • 12-time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys performs her own extraordinary new version of the Blondie classic “Rapture”.

  • The soundtrack also features the stars of Sex and the City 2, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, performing the Helen Reddy classic “I Am Woman.”
My take on the soundtrack: (refer to tracklistings above)

My favorite songs from the CD are the ones that I am most familiar with. Track number 4, 9, and 17 get a lot of play. I like having something I can relate to.

I fell in love with the Sex and the City Men's Choir, number 12, 13, and 14. It reminds me of my Catholic girl roots. Go figure.

When driving down the road on a beautiful day, I seem to love the calm of track number 16 by Liza Minnelli. However, I did not like her rendition of Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)". Because the original was so successful, it was hard for me to accept an alternative version. I get a good kick out of listening to it though.

The setting for the new movie may be the reason why two of the tracks, 5 and 6, are Moroccan-inspired. I find myself wanting to break-out in a full-on belly dancing. I resist the urge.

Overall, the Sex and the City 2 soundtrack is a great accessory to the movie. And we all know how important accessories are. Don't we ladies?!

Gather your friends, hit the town, and celebrate life by going to see the movie which is in theaters today, May 27th.
