Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Diamond Edition Combo Pack Review

"Mirror, mirror on the wall, who in the land is fairest of all?" ~The Queen in Snow White

For the last few weekends it has been raining. I can barely make it out of the bed on any given day, so adding a little drizzle to the mix makes it that much harder. I decided I would use my time wisely and watch a new DVD from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. It is the animated classic known as Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs.

This Blu-ray and DVD combo pack premiered on October 6, 2009. That is a whole 7 weeks before the standard definiton DVD is released on November 24, 2009. I was lucky enough to view it early thanks to the One2One Network.

In 1937, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs became the first full-length animated film ever made. It is often known as "The One That Started It All". One would say that this classic animation has come a long way considering the original did not even have color. Now, you can view this story using Blu-ray technology with brilliantly-scripted and colorful scenes.

What makes Blu-ray so much more exciting?

Highlights about Blu-ray discs and players:

  • Up to 6x better quality than DVD
  • 7.1 Surround Sound
  • Immersive activity with games and special features
  • Kid proof-more scratch resistant (hallelujah!)
  • Plays both Blu-ray and DVD discs
  • Blu-ray also plays on Sony Playstation 3 players

Blu-ray Combo Pack Features

Picture & Sound

  • First time ever in high definition 7.1 sound
  • Disneyview – expanded viewing experience
  • All-new Music Video

Disney Family Play

  • What  Do You See? - Decipher the scambled image
  • Mirror, Mirror on the Wall – Which princess are you most like?
  • Jewel Jumble – test your matching skills

Backstage Disney

  • Snow White Returns – Newly discovered storyboards. Was Walt planning a sequel?
  • Hyperion Studios – Explore Walt’s original studio
  • The One That Started It All – See how Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs forever changed the world of movies
Scenes from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Once Snow White is told to flee to and hide, she meets the Seven Dwarfs and becomes friends with them. They allow Snow White to stay with her.

This is my least favorite scene when the witch (the queen in disguise) attempts  to give Snow White an poisoned apple to eat.

The Prince brings Snow White back to life with a kiss.

They live Happily Ever After.

I will say that the Blu-ray and DVD Combo Pack is a little pricey. The Suggested Retail Price is $39.99. When you factor in all the features and the fact that it would make a great Christmas gift, the price does not seem all that bad.

If you do not own a Blu-ray DVD player, what are you waiting for? Put it on your Christmas list. Until then, the standard DVD Suggested Retail Price is $29.99.

Who would have thought that the issue of vanity occuring in the 1930s would still hold some truth in today's society? I guess that's why this story is a classic.
