It's no secret, Kaden loves to read. As a parent, it warms my heart to know that he is able to go on a new journey with each page that he turns in a book. Kaden loves books just as much as he loves toys. That is remarkable.
When we were given the opportunity to review Testing the Ice: A True Story About Jackie Robinson by Sharon Robinson, the daughter of baseball legend Jackie Robinson, I did not hesitate at all.
Watch the video below to get a glimpse into what the book is all about:
When Kaden checks out a book from the public library, school, or purchases one from the store, I familiarize myself with the book by reading the background information (mainly for chapter books). I like to have an idea about the content of the book, and whether or not it is appropriate for him to read.
When Testing the Ice arrived in the mail, I was instantly enticed by the front cover. The picture was so detailed and vivid. I liked the raised detail in the wording on the front cover. I opened the book and began reading as if I was a 7-year old child again.
Without giving too much away, here is a summary of the book:

Under Sharon Robinson's skillful authorship and Kadir Nelson's vivid illustrations, TESTING THE ICE also becomes a stunning metaphor for her father's remarkable racial breakthrough.Kaden took to the book immediately. Listen as he reads the first 2 pages of the book. He has a hard time pronouncing "Yogi Berra". Take a peek:
